It looks like a Convair 340 or 440 Metropolitan to me.
Originally the CV 110 was built to replace the DC3. The prototpye had its maiden flight in spring 46 with a capacity of 40 pax.
I think on the photo is a CV440, so it has a capacity of 52 pax.
Performance: max cruising speed 483km/h, 261kt; range with max fuel:3106km/1677nm;
Dimensions: wingspan:32,12m/105ft 4in, lenght:24,13m/79ft,2in.
Unfortunatly I dont know anyhing about the airline. :confus_2:
cheers night

WOW Nighthawk! Very close! (Your first guess.) It is a CV-340 XW-PJX. (Registration, XW being "Old Laos").
It was originally acquired new by Garuda in Indonesia, then sold to the Tri-9 Corp. in Singapore for refurbishment. She was then delivered to Angkor Wat Airlines (which was their only aircraft) and then leased to Royal Air Lao. It is believed that she was destroyed in 1975.
Then of course came the CV-440 Metropolitan, then the CV-640. This particular aircraft type has an interesting history. I don't know too much about the CV-110. I am sure that mystere can really shed light on the origin.
Nice work! :smile_2:

Nighthawk, I conferred with "The Master" to check my facts. I may be wrong about Angkor Wat Airlines.
Gonna check into this and let you know. :smile_2:

The CV 110 design was initiated in response to an AAL request to replace the DC3. AAL found the CV110, which 1st flew on July 8 1946, to be too small and asked that the CV110 be scaled up in size, and this resulted in the CV220 Convair Liner. The CV220 was arguably the most advanced short haul airliner of its day and first flew March 16 1947 and entered service on June1 1948.
The succes of the CV220 led to the 1.37m strechted CV340 which first flew on Oct 5 1951, and the CV440 which icorporated some aerodynamiv improvements and first flew Oct6 1955.(The international Directory of civil aircraft)
Thx, for your information skygirl, havent heard anything about Angor Wat airlines. MY guess was a old carrier somewhere in the states.
