hey guys! I just tried to request an educational leave of absence (LOA) and it was refused. I was told by planning that they were not in a position to give leaves and would advise me if and when via a bulletin to all staff. I'm sorry but i was under the impresison that Milton keeps complaining that we're overstaffed. Friends on rsv are only flyoing 50 hrs/mth if lucky. So, why wouldn't the company welcome me leaving for a while?! Has anyone else had any problems? Or can anyone give me any suggestions?

I have the same experience. -- I've been trying for months now. Apparently we have to just keep trying and everytime there is a block award the educational leaves are re-assessed again.
Totally Sux!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed too!

From what I heard YYZ is going to be really short of F/A this summer, due to the fact that yyz is going to HKG, ICN, and Narrita all non stop. It is supposed to be already in the computer for bookings, starting in May or early June. I would keep trying sometimes you get a different answer when you get a different person. Good luck

Thanks for the info ... I guess I will just keep emailing and trying. If we had "real" in-flight managers in YYZ, then I would go see one. I mean, I don't like not knowing my manager and every time having to see someone different. Can anyone suggest anyone nice at YYZ?

AC886,I dunno if this applies to you but by chance you're not trying to make the jump from the back to the front are you(fa to pilot?) and that's why you need the leave?. If so, I was informed by an old friend (who's a supervisor at mainline) that one should speak to Flt OPS to help them get you a leave and DON'T speak to Inflight. Appearantly they'd like to keep those of us making the jump close to home so to speak and they are the folks to pull the strings for you( ie you'll come back one day and fly for mainline or Jazz). same for us over here ...I'm gonna be looking for a leave if I get a flying job this spring. The only thing is, you gotta be all done your licenses first. Just a point for you if that's your situation or anyone in a similar situation to me.

No MadDash ... not for flying. I'm actually using it as an educational leave - I've been granted with a great graduate studies opportunity out of the country, and don't want to give it up. So, I hope AC will be helpful ...

Ac 886, try ask for the leave again, a friend of mine works in yul office, it just came out in the last 48hrs that the company isn't doing great right now and they are going to be granting leaves to anyone that wants one. All special assignments are cancelled and the disruptive pax training has been put on hold. Good Luck!

...if they'r not giving you any LOA's...does it means that thei're "short staff" right now??? 'Cause, as one of the "2002 summer temps"...i can't wait to be back on the line...! I'm just waiting for a call...!!!
How are you guys doing on the line right now? How's the loads...? Do you think we should get a call from AC in the next months (Feb or March...?) That would be great...!
See ya soon AC friends...!!!

Pumpkin, does this mean we won't have to put up with any more coaching on the Asia run?

Sorry Nrt, not sure on that one, it wasn't mentioned. They just mentioned the majority of F/A's in the training center would have to go back on the line.

Having recently spoken to planning it is my understanding that they are now in a position to grant monthly leaves. AC886, just like others have suggested, keep trying and don't stop! Good luck :cool_2:

The F/A that I was flying with last week, who is PSR qualified and flying as F/A was given a leave for next month, but then planning called back and recinded it when they realized that she was PSR qualified. She asked why she couldn't have a leave even as a PSR when there are so many flying as F/A's. Planning then said that if she, who was a purser was given a leave, then her F/A block would have to be given to another F/A. She then countered with, 'but you were willing to give me the leave as an F/A, so what's the problem?" The answer was that they were going to be realy realy short in YYZ so she couldn't have a leave at all in YHZ, and that's final.

So, what do you make of that?
