Hi SWISSGUY,
In French it is longeron but I dont know the German word for it.
It is the main part that is strenghtening the wing. There may be one or two, and normally they are one piece. They are connected to the airframe ones at each wing root.
Here is an URL showing it : A spar (http://www.yellowairplane.com/Pitts/build/Pitts_wings_8-2.html)
Hope this will help you understanding it.
But maybe Docent75 could explain it in better English than I can do or Skygirl2003 or DXVixen or even Studley ....

The spar is the beam that provides most or all of the wing's strength, depending on the design of the wing. In birds the English term is wing bone. The spar tapers toward the wingtip, because it picks up more load as one moves toward the fuselage. Look a bird's wing The landing gear is attached to the spar because the spar is the strongest place on the wing. The spar is located at the thickest part of the wing to use material efficiently. Thick beam are stronger than thing ones. the fuel tanks are there because for a given tank weight thick tanks hold more fuel than thin ones.
Thank you Mystere. We have missed you, but newly weds are forgiven.
