Do you know why most combi aircraft have the cargo hold at the back of the cabin ?
Were there exceptions ? If so, which aircraft ?

Exception are mostly regional prob aircrafts like ATR72/42.

Does the 747C has the cargo compartment in the rear, coz that the passengers are not seperated from the cockpit section?
And if it would be in front, passenger bridges cant connect.

This is going back a while, but I remember being a passenger on a number of combi's that had the cargo area up front. Among them: a Sabena 707... Western Airlines 707 (or maybe it was a 720)... World Airways 727-100... Great Northern L-188 Electra... Flying Tiger DC-8-63...

Right CD and nwacrew,
Use was to have cargo in the front in the past on the aircraft you quoted .... as well as on the SE-210 Caravelle XI R too ... just to quote one ...

But I still would like to know if someone know why this change now for the aft ?

I used to assume - incorrectly I guess - that the cargo was put in front as a safety issue. In an accident, aft-stored cargo would break loose, hurtle forward and demolish the passenger cabin like a bowling ball striking down pins. Would YOU want to have cargo pallets behind YOUR seat in a crash landing???

Is the forward v. aft arrangement used for all cargos, or are some forward and some aft? If the location of the cargo section varies with the load, weight and balance may be the deciding factor. But, it seems from this discussion that the cargo section is moving aft. It is probably easier to manover the loading equipment to those door. Just a guess.
