Hello
This is just my own thought but will it be feasable that WJ and Canjet come to an alliance one day?
This is just a question, no rumours or anything like it. :smile_2:
If i look at it they both have 737 and WJ is well in the west and Canjet is in the east :smile_2:

I don't really think that an alliance would be viable.
No-frills/low-cost airlines try to reduce their operating costs by only operating a point-to-point route network, and do not interline with other airlines.
So, I don't think an alliance, but a good idea would be a merger. As mentioned both airlines operate the 737-200 and as the industry becomes saturated as its beginning to in Europe, I think that mergers will become inevitable.

Thx for the answer, this is what you are doin now with GO. I was just curious because they are on both sides of Canada and they have 737 and they are efficient. :smile_2:
Who knows what the future will be :smile_2:

Hi there
I doubt we'd ever join up with CanJet... nothing to gain from it. If anything, and this is pure speculation on my part, it would be with Jet Blue or Southwest, although Jet Blue is a better fit.
Not that I'm starting rumours.....

I'm no longer with easyJet, but you're correct, that is exactly what easyJet are doing with GO right now.
Some people, namely EZY management are happy, but morale is apparently at an all time low around there.
EZY has gained quick access to 3 new bases, 30 aircraft and to eat up its biggest competitor in Scotland.
So, financially it seems to be viable, but the cost of employees' happiness ...

Well they are sort of a exact match between each other only CJ is east and WJ is west. It seems like a match made in heaven but is it really?

Actually, WJ is working on building a national network (Windsor, Gander, St. John's, Montreal, Halifax just in the first half of this year). We're no longer in the West. CanJet seems to be content to be in the east with some transborder. And they're still using 737-200s, while we're moving rapidly towards a 737-700 (next generation) only fleet. Similar, but not quite...sort of like apples and pears.

:smile_2: well i was just thinkin about it in the way that you do your service, is it the same way? i never flew on CJ so i am just wondering. And their network is already here so less trouble for you :smile_2:But i can understand that it also offers competition which is good too!
Cheers and C U later!

CJ is way differant then WJ. As you know WestJet has a brand of attitude that no other carrier does so that means no way to CJ! :pilot:

I would have trouble seeing the benefits. WestJet is very successful in doing things "their way". Most Canadian companies have had to deal with the hauntings of mergers past. I doubt WestJet would want this-- it could cut into their success. Given the political situation in this country, I think they are also better poised to resist the Federal Government's meddling in their business, as Air Canada had with regards to purchasing Canadian. But this is an apples to oranges comparison. Following the AC/CP merger, conventional wisdom is that it is better to wait for the competitor to go Tango Uniform, and then pick up the pieces you want at scrap yard prices.
At best, I think WestJet would head out east and drown CanJet in the Atlantic.

Well Panama Jack...thats a really great attitude to have! After all the trouble airlines in Canada are experiencing you would think that one would want another airline in this country to succeed! WestJet has a great thing going for them, why would you not want another company to attempt the same thing and be successful? They are two totally different airlines and whos to say CanJet wants to be a part of WestJet anyways? I dont!

I have flown on WJ quite often and to be honest, I think it is a great airline. Although, as a passenger, I sometimes hear comments that other pax make on flights that some employees don t hear (especially some who are a little bit too fat-headed). Some people are tired of the same old jokes and the "overly energetic" staff.
I ve met some really nice people at West Jet but I ve also encountered many "pretentious" ones as well.
To be honest, I think it is somewhat pretentious to think that West Jet can beat Canjet...
I say long live to all the airlines in Canada! Cause competition is the way to go!

Ex C3 FA-- I think you misread my post. I have no illusions that CanJet wants to be assimilated by Westjet.

Because the principle behind "market share" is not to share the market. WestJet is not into charity work nor mentoring potential competition. Nor is Air Canada, nor was Canada 3000 for that matter. Airlines are in to make a profit and if that means beating their competitor, or snuffing him out, then that is what they will do. That sucks for airline employees of course. And before you think that I am a WestJet employee with a superiority complex-- buzz, wrong! I am on the losing "Red" team and in a lot of areas WestJet kicks our ass! Think they are going to show mercy towards us? Nope. You think Clive is going to "help" the Red team clean up their act so that we can run a profitable operation again? Nor will we to them. Kinnear didn't have a love-in with LeBlanc either to see how they could improve each of their airlines to offer more options to Canadian travellers. In the end I believe that in this country, only those who can eat raw meat will survive.
That means that I will probably be on the street within a couple of months too. Oh well, you might not like what I said, but they say that the sermon you like most is probably the one that will do you the least amount of good.

Hey TSU
I agree with some of those passengers about WestJet. Some of the antics on board the aircraft are annoying. when I travelled on Canjet they seemed to be Casual but still maintained a level of professionalism that WestJet doesn't have.
In the airport where I work WestJet ground agents and our own share gate and boarding areas. WS agents often cut into airport wide announcements rather than waiting for it to finish before starting their own. They also use the local area PA for their antics, i.e. "lets have a pax come up and use the PA to tell everyone here what the best thing they did this summer was!" and I'm trying to board an On-Time departure while they are trying to distract pax from their own delay.
I now westJets "whole thing" is "we're here, we are proud and we are not afraid to tell it!" but there is a line between being proud and just being a big rude bragger. I think their success is going to their heads!

Isn't it amazing how someone musing about one topic can cause such a migration?
I will admit to occassionally cutting off a common pa, always by mistake, I will add.
The best thing I can say to fix your issue at the gate is this: if you are in the middle of boarding, and we're hogging the PA, please just come by and politely let us know. We're not bad people, we're just doing things our way. We will desist.
And quite honestly, we've received internal feedback that we're not as "up and funny" at the gates or on board as we used to be, and we've had complaint letters telling us they miss the old days. Guess we'll never keep everyone happy.... and that will create opportunities for competition.

and we're hogging the PA
hahaha. I used to hog the PA all the time. From other airlines and fellow WestJetters alike! Hey, if the "WestJet Fun Fact of the Day" didn't get people thinking than I don't know what would! :tongue_2:

I could not agree more with both you and TSU. Westjet`s(and Clive`s) success is coming to their head and they are becoming more and more arrogant every day.
Canadians are known to hate arrogance and to like people who know respect for others and tolerance. Especially Quebecois. Good luck in Montreal with a name like Westjet and that attitude. Especially with your lack of French-speakers on Board.
When you are at the Top of the curve there is only one way to go. DOWN!!!

Ok guys!
Easy! :smile_2:
I flew on WJ many times on DH and surprisingly there are a lot of French speaking F/A's. And both CJ and WJ will be successful in the way they treat their customers.
From personal experience, it is true that flyin on WJ is DIFFERENT and this is why ppl will remember them more than an another airline, because of "their way of doing things".It is a marketing thing :smile_2:
Maybe some may exagerrate "the jokes" but it is ok, personel still smile and enjoy their jobs. I wish success for all the airlines in Canada, some are struggling and some are laying off F/A's... So the topic was just a question not to start a fight between anyone.
Cheers and remember that we only live once and enjoy all the moments that you have.
Cheers
