In advance of the AMS Meeting, I'd like to get information on good places to visit, eat, and hang out from you who have been there or live there. Also any weather information (typical conditions) for the time we will meet would be most helpful. :smile_2:

The places in AMS where I like to go out are, for instance:
- to have a drink, Schuim, in the Spuistraat, quite a cool place to get your evening started;
- a typical Amsterdam 'brown cafe' is Cafe De Doelen (but everybnody calls it Oorlam, because above the entrance is an old billboard that says that). It at the corner of the Kloveniersburwal/Staalstraat, near the Stopera, the municipal building);
- for a afternoon or early evening the Nieuwmarkt is nice, with a lot of bars;
- if you want to go clubbing, a good place for progressive house (Saturdays) is Panama, at the Oostelijke Handelskade. You can also have dinner there.

Thanks for all of the tips posted so far! Keep posting! :smile_2:

We're thinking about going dancing at a club on that Saturday, and I was wondering if there are any clubs in AMS that play 70's disco music?

hi studley,

:smile_2: regards from switzerland

70s music sounds good, may i ask how the plans look like? which hotel... and stuff.. by the way, is a hotel really necessary, since this might be a all-night dance ... next morning breakfast and then take a flight home?

i mean, ... thats what i would think.......

We're still in the process of getting information on things to do and places to go. Same thing for clubs and restaurants (so we can choose where to have dinner on the Saturday of that weekend).

I'm staying at traveler's place. However, there are others coming from the USA and Canada who may need tips on hotels. Please don't post any hotel information here. Instead, send it to me via PM, and I'll get it to everyone planning to attend from out of town.

My sister works as a receptionist for a cheap, but nice, little hotel straight in the center of AMS... I'll contact her about prices & availability and then forward that info to Mr. Studley... Gimme a few days though since she's hard to reach... :grin:

Furthermore I would be most willing to provide the "Airport to City" shuttle for our arriving collegues... Since my job nowadys is driving around VIPs all day, they would be in safe hands... :grin: Would have to hire a van for the weekend though, so a little "help in the costs" would be welcome then... But we'll cross that brigde when we get to it...

yeah I heard a lot about them, never been there though, no idea how they look like from the inside :confus_2:

anyone knows Gerard Joling? Dutch singer? Well here's a funny story, in A'dam I've been swimming 4 days a week, after a year or so, after finishing my laps, and after getting out of he shower I was standing in front of the mirror putting my hair in order(naked) and there he came in, Gerard Joling(argh) checking me out. I sat down gettting dressed and he stripped right in front of me :confus_2: how obvious can you be? anyway at the point where he stood in front of me bare naked I got reminded to his commercials for hair implants,he has them, so I asked him, do you have implants there as well? He laughed, asked my phonenumber, asked do I know you from somewhere, a party, a magazine cover? SOO not my type, but this guy is in the business a long time already(like 15 years) and now it comes as a kid I imitated this guy, My god I'm still so embarished about it, I had to get it of my chess you know!
