Ear Tubes. . .

Well everyone I went to another ENT last Tuesday and the MD recommended getting tubes put in. I'm getting them tom. afternoon, the procedure takes about 15 minutes. Does anyone currently have tubes in their ears? What can you tell me about them? The MD also recommended taking a decongestant everytime before a flight-is that safe? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had tubes as a kid twice. Used to get nasty ear infections! Obviously I don't remember too much about it, except that one came out on my pillow during the night once and I took in for show-and-tell. :grin: You will definitely notice a difference when you fly...no more ear block, no more hard pressure changes.

And yes its totally safe to take a decongestant before you fly...I do so myself on any day I feel the slightest bit of mucous in my sinuses. As long as its non-drowsy, you're fine. Try to find one without any added ibuprofen/acetominophen (sp?) though...you can always take an advil later if you need it for some reason.

Having tubes put in is an extremely simple procedure. And very safe. Probably safer than your drive to the hospital... :grin: They should dramatically reduce the number of infections you get. Flying will be a breeze too.

You'll probably get drops after they're inserted. Once they're in place, be very careful when showering or swimming! Your doctor will probably give you specific instructions about using ear plugs. Good luck! :smile_2:

Everyone I finally got the ear tubes put in. My ears are a little sore still but I've been taking Ibuprofen. The MD prescribed my Floxin ear drops. I took out the cotton from my ears and it feels very strange. I feel as though my hearing is a little sharper but I still feel like my left ear is clogged. Does anyone know how long it takes to heal or for one's body to get used to the tubes??? Well, I'll be returning to EWR tom. to go back to work, I haven't been there in over a week. Fly safe.
