Alcohol Consumption-Public Image and Perception

VANCOUVER EDMONTON CALGARY WINNIPEG TORONTO MONTRÉAL HALIFAX

During the past few months, incidents in the industry involving alcohol consumption by flcrewmembers, have highlighted the importance of strict adherence to Air Canada’s alcohol use policy. News media are very quick to seize these incidents, report on them in depth, and in general put the airline involved in a very negative position with regard to public image.

The Corporation wants all employees to be aware of the degree of importance placed on professional conduct. The confidence of the travelling public is absolutely critical to maintaining our customer base and to achieving our goals for prosperity in the future.

The Safety and Emergency Procedures Manual is explicit in defining the parameters for alcohol consumption by in-flight crews. Each of you, individually, are responsible for ensuring that you are able to report for duty free from the influence of any intoxicant and compliant with all applicable rules and regulations. Failure to comply is a very serious matter.

Should you wish to discuss your personal situation, contact information for representatives of the Employee Assistance Plan are readily available in the Performance and Operations Standards Manual (123), chapter 32 or RES III at CIC*EAP. Your inquiry will be treated with the utmost of confidentiality.
