Alaska Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways have started a reciprocal frequent flyer arrangement that allows members of each airline's frequent flyer plan to earn and redeem miles on the other carrier.
This is the first time that Mileage Plan, Alaska's frequent flyer programme, has partnered with an Asia-based carrier.
The Cathay deal also marks a further extension of Alaska's various marketing links with a number of oneworld alliance airlines. It already has marketing, codeshare or frequent flier arrangements with American Airlines, British Airways, LanChile and Qantas.
The new arrangement with Hong Kong's Cathay starts on 19 February, after which Mileage Plan members will earn one mile for each mile flown on Cathay. It will be extended in spring when Mileage Plan members will be able to redeem miles for travel on Cathay.
