Singapore Airlines said Wednesday it will start three flights a week to India's IT hub Bangalore, the airway's fifth destination in the country.
Flights between Singapore and Bangalore will begin May 1 on Boeing 777 aircraft, the airline said in a statement.
Singapore Airlines already flies direct to New Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta and Madras. With a Bangalore service, the airline will have 27 flights a week from Singapore to India.
"I am sure Bangalore will prove to be a very popular new destination in our network and hope these services can help boost business and tourism in both countries," said Singapore Airlines' executive vice president for marketing and regions, Huang Cheng Eng.
Singapore president S.R. Nathan visited India earlier this month for talks focused on boosting bilateral commerce.
The island-state expects to start talks with India on a free trade agreement in April, Singapore Trade Minister George Yeo said Wednesday.
