Copa and Mexicana are beefing up their Mexico-Panama services to support a new codeshare agreement.
The two carriers have inked an alliance that calls for them to codeshare on all their Mexico-Panama flights from 18 February. Copa is also adding four weekly frequencies to Mexico next month while Mexicana is adding three weekly flights to Panama.
Copa chief executive Pedro Heilbron says the carrier will increase its Panama City-Mexico City service from seven to 11 weekly frequencies. Mexicana is also re-timing its three weekly Mexico City-Panama City flights to connect better with Copa flights to other destinations in the Americas.
Mexicana is launching next month three weekly flights from Cancun to Panama City. Copa is now the only carrier operating scheduled nonstops on this route, with three weekly frequencies. These flights will be retained, but Copa will add Mexicana's code.
Both carriers say the new alliance will give their passengers new one-stop connection opportunities throughout Central, North and South America.
