I can heartily recommend the Hotel Centrale in Venice Mestre. It's on the bus route from Aeroporto Marco Polo to Mestre Cento, the stop is right outside. If you prefer a taxi, a road car will take you there for around 25 Euros.

Mestre is the mainland part of Venice, and is a very nice place to stay.

The bus stop outside of the hotel has a bus, number 7, every 10 minutes all day into Venice itself, taking around 10 mins. It drops you at Piazza dela Roma.

Venice Mestre is packed with shops - larger and more shopable than on the island.

Around the back of the hotel is The Irish Rover pub - you won't find a nicer pub!! Quality Irish beers on tap, open most of the day from about 10 am untill midnight, though they do close for a kinda siesta! And don't go Thursday, they are inexplicably shut! Great atmosphere and the owner is a bit of a whiz on the DJ decks, music predominantly two tone and ska, that kinda stuff.

The Irish Rover does WONDERFUL food! My recommendations - Pepite del pollo con la patates (Chicken Nuggets and french fries) One 12 inch plate of nuggets and the same of fries, with a couple of cup fulls of dip of various flavours. Truly wonderful, and great for sharing!

Pepite del pollo con la patates con 3 pinta di birra costing 20 Euros.

Everyone in Venezia was wonderfully understanding with my Italiian which I hadn't used for 20 years!
