Austrian start-up carrier Styrian Airways is to be rebranded as Styrian Spirit and will launch its first flights between Austria and Germany on 24 March.
It will operate from two bases initially - Graz and Linz - using three 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets. The carrier has not yet disclosed the source of the aircraft, but identifies their registrations as OE-LSS, OE-LSC and OE-LSD.
Styrian Spirit will initially fly to four German destinations. From Graz it will operate to Stuttgart 17 times weekly, to Frankfurt 11 times weekly, and six times weekly to both Dusseldorf and Munich.
It will also operate from Linz to Frankfurt 11 times per week and to Dusseldorf five times. The carrier's flights will carry the designator code 'Z2'.
A spokeswoman for Styrian Spirit says that the change of brand is designed to "be different from the ordinary 'Airways' name".
Styrian Spirit is marketing its services to business travellers, and says that its regional connections are "independent and free of alliance constraints". Its intended network is presently dominated by Star Alliance partners Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa.
