Corsican airline Compagnie Corse Mediterranee (CCM) has tapped French regional carrier Airlinair for aircraft to enable it to take over Air Littoral's former services from Figari to Marseilles and Nice.
CCM has already taken on Air Littoral's former routes from Calvi to Marseilles and Nice. But due to a lack of capacity, CCM had to delay taking on the same services from Figari.
Now through Airlinair, CCM will base an ATR 42 at Figari, and will initially offer twice-daily services between Figari and Marseille and a daily service between Figari and Nice. It could add additional frequencies this summer.
CCM will operate the links until 30 October, but after this authorities will open them to offers from alternative carriers.
"When authorities open the appeal for offers, CCM plans to secure investment to acquire an additional aircraft and train its staff," says the carrier. "CCM is refocusing on its original mission - to ensure all the public service routes from the island through its own resources and skills."
CCM already offers links from Figari to Paris and Lyon.
Created in 1999, Airlinair has a fleet of nine ATR 42s and six ATR 72s. Like CCM, Airlinair operates public service routes, serving Aurillac, Brive, Bergerac, Castres and Perigueux from Paris. Airlinair also performs services on behalf of Air France and its subsidiaries.
Air Littoral ceased operations on routes from Figari to Marseilles and Nice in February after a series of failed rescue bids led to the airline's liquidation.
