View Full Version : Taking it's toll.. your advice

Cross Check

It seems funny a flighty getting help off you.. but maybe some light from a ground based person could help me with the taking its toll. I have been partnered now for 2 years and all is been going well.. until just recently when I have noticed a sometimes hostile front from the other half. I have been working a lot of nights with more and more to come... more lay overs then I originally had with the other airline and since changing over there have been some frustrating changes that I have seeked advise from the other half about. But as of late we seem to be ships passing in the harbour.. and I am fearing the end.. any suggestions???? Comments have been passed that I have been taking..and not giving.. but I try to give 110% but the things they are expecting are not able to do due to work and flight schedules..

Hey CC, I can relate to the hostile front and maybe give you some insight. Being the partner on the ground can be tough. I think sometimes my partner doesn't realize that while he's gone, my life is still going on, it doesn't stop and restart when he takes off and lands. It can be difficult dealing with everything on your own and it can lead to a bit of resentment on his return. It sometimes takes me a day to get "comfortable" again. Of course my situation is compounded by living 3K miles apart. It always feels like the one at home is left with a bigger hole than the one doing all the leaving. It's probably due to hurt and missing you nore than anything else but hurt is often expressed as anger or resentment. Bring home some flowers next time and tell your partner how much you missed them. That would go a long way for me!

It has been my experience that when you are gone for awhile (week or more) that comming home is kinda like two porcupines kissing. You need to be very careful. Your partner has gotten use to you being gone (yes they are use to you being gone) so they need to get use to you being home again. No matter how you may feel about things more then likely you will be wrong. (Guys can relate to this one)So like ffPAX said, bring flowers, go slow, and tell them how much you have missed them (True right?) I will report back to y'all in about 3 months and we will see if I do what I say.

Negative (for a change) on the sarcastic. But you know I can go from having a heart to being a jerk (Just kidding) in seconds... then back to having a heart again.

let's just hope CC doesn't have to re-invent the wheel to keep it going. Let us know how it goes, CC, you're aces in my book.

I think you're right on the money, honey. It's not so bad now that we're living in the same place and all...but during the periods where my better half and I were doing the long distance thing, we always found ourselves needing a day or so to 'reacclimate' to being together. Once we figured out that this is what it was, it was easier to put those little problems into perspective rather than assume our relationship was in the toilet. Good thing too, because it's better than ever lately.
