锘緾heers to hypocrisy!
For years Weeds is being the "evrybody-talks-about-series" but I neverhad the opportunity to watch it. But for the last 2 weeks, Weeds is allI'm thinking about, watching desperately all episodes, and finally Icould understand why it got so much attention for the last 4 years.
First of all, the cast is amazing. Mary-Luise Parker, as Nancy Botwin, fits so well in her character and she is so charismatic and sobeautiful and so subtle, gentle, comprehensive and polite that it'salmost impossible not like her. Elizabeth Perkins as Celia Hodes, mygod, that woman rocks! She's so naturally dried by the unhappy life shehas built that even a spontaneous smile seems like a rock. I can'tbelieve that Elizabeth Perkins never won an award for this characteruntil now because every moment is an outstanding performance. KevinNealon as Doug Wilson, always high - but also very smart - for suregives the best laughing moments.
But the most interesting thing about the show is not the drugs, it'snot Nancy living a hell each new day and not even the mistakes eachcharacter does during the episodes, but the social matters that itpoints. I'm Brazilian and I live in a small suburban city like theimaginary Agrestic/Magestic, so... I know a lot how is to survive in aplace where you're surrounded by ignorant people that are moved just byan inexistent appearance. It's so revolting to a point that sometimesyou just want to do things just to provoke people and play with theirabstraction of reality, and the series shows it in a very intelligentand interesting way so you feel connected by it in a way or another.
Weeds is not about dealing with drugs, but a way to express thehypocrisy of each single person in the world.
